The pipe we use in our heating systems is BRANZ Appraised and has an approximate durability of at least 50 years. Champion Heating Ltd provide a 25 year guarantee on our pipework in the slab. On top of this we also provide a 2 year warranty on our Control Panels and other products.
Underfloor heating can work successfully with all floor coverings.
The best floor coverings for use with underfloor heating are hard surfaces such as stone and ceramic tile as they have the least resistance and transfer heat effectively.
Having no floor coverings at all and a polished concrete floor is becoming more and more popular. We have a great deal of experience in laying floor heating in areas that contain decorative saw-cuts and polished and coloured concrete. We use a staple down method of installation specifically designed for polished concrete floors.
Carpet is still a good choice of floor covering for a home that has underfloor heating. The Underfloor Heating Manufacturers UK have provide information on floor heating with carpets and their test results show that a combined carpet and underlay of up to 2.5 togs does not impede the efficiency of an underfloor heating system. The main point in relation to water-based underfloor heating and carpets is that you should try and get the underlay to have as low a thermal resistance as possible so that the underlay doesn’t insulate the heat coming up from the slab too much. A preferred underlay would have a low resistance (tog rating) and be a good conductor of heat so heat transfer happens quickly.
100% wood, recycled timber boards, laminate based or parquet wood is still a great choice of floor covering for a home that has underfloor heating. We have a great deal of experience in liaising with flooring contractors in relation to our installation and once a floor is laid for the first time we gradually increase the floor temperature over a period of time to "set the floor".
